Possible Causes

Open or shorted RTD temperature probe, Damaged sensor wiring, Loose RTD connector on control board, Probe coated with heavy grease

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool completely before touching the probe or wiring.

  • Visual inspection: Locate the temperature probe (RTD) inside the cook chamber, usually a small metal rod on the side wall. Check for heavy grease buildup, physical damage, or broken wires.
  • Clean the probe: Wipe the probe gently with a soft cloth and mild degreaser. Avoid abrasive pads that can damage the sensor.
  • Check connections: Access the back of the controller and verify the RTD connector is fully seated and not corroded.
  • Continuity test (optional): Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the RTD leads. An open circuit or zero ohms indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace RTD if faulty: Remove the mounting screw or nut holding the probe, pull the wire through the wall grommet, disconnect from the board, and install a new Camp Chef RTD temperature probe.
