Possible Causes
Swollen or wet pellets jamming auger, Foreign object in auger tube, Stripped auger motor gearbox
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure it is cool before working on the auger.
- Empty hopper: Remove all pellets and vacuum out dust.
- Access auger: Remove the hopper and side panels as needed to expose the auger and motor.
- Disconnect motor: Remove the set screw or pin connecting the motor to the auger shaft. Try to rotate the auger by hand with pliers. If stuck, remove the auger and clear all compacted pellets and debris from the tube.
- Inspect gearbox: If the auger turns freely by hand but the motor makes grinding noises or does not turn the shaft under load, replace the auger motor/gearbox assembly.
