Control panel displays ERR5 and temperature reading is extremely high or erratic

Possible Causes
Shorted RTD probe wiring, Probe tip coated in heavy carbon/grease, Moisture intrusion into probe connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool completely.
- Clean the probe: Gently clean the RTD probe inside the cook chamber with a non-abrasive pad and a degreaser safe for grills. Remove heavy carbon buildup that can cause false readings.
- Inspect for shorts: Follow the probe wire and look for spots where the insulation is worn through and touching metal. If found, the probe assembly should be replaced.
- Dry connectors: If the grill has been exposed to heavy rain or washing, disconnect the RTD plug at the control board, dry both sides thoroughly, and reconnect.
- Test again: Plug the grill back in and power on. If ERR5 returns or temperatures jump wildly, replace the RTD temperature probe with a Char‑Griller compatible sensor.
