Possible Causes
Stuck auger feeding too many pellets, Control board relay stuck on, RTD probe reading too low
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill off, unplug it, and open the lid to allow heat to dissipate. Keep children and pets away until cooled.
- Inspect fire pot: Once cool, remove grates and diffuser and check for a large mound of unburned pellets in the fire pot. Excess pellets indicate overfeeding.
- Check auger movement: With the grill empty and cool, plug it in and start a low-temperature cycle. Observe the auger. It should turn intermittently, not continuously. If it runs constantly, the control board may be faulty.
- Verify RTD probe: Clean the probe and inspect wiring. A low-reading probe can cause the board to overfeed pellets.
- Corrective action: If the auger runs continuously regardless of temperature setting, replace the control board. If the probe is damaged or heavily coated, replace the RTD probe.
