Possible Causes
Damaged RTD temperature probe wire, Disconnected RTD sensor plug at control board, Failed RTD temperature probe, Corroded RTD connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill from power and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.
- Step 1 – Inspect RTD probe: Locate the RTD temperature probe inside the cook chamber (usually a small metal rod on the side wall). Check that it is not bent, broken, or coated in heavy grease. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth.
- Step 2 – Check RTD wiring: Follow the RTD cable from the probe into the body of the grill and down to the control panel area. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or pinch points where the lid or body may have crushed the cable.
- Step 3 – Verify connections at control board: Remove the controller mounting screws and carefully pull the control panel forward. Find the RTD sensor plug on the Cuisinart control board (often a 2‑wire connector). Make sure it is fully seated and not corroded. Unplug and re‑plug it several times to clean the contacts.
- Step 4 – Test continuity (if you have a meter): With the grill unplugged, disconnect the RTD from the board and measure resistance across the two RTD leads. A typical RTD for Cuisinart pellet grills will show a few kilo‑ohms at room temperature. An infinite reading indicates an open sensor that must be replaced.
- Step 5 – Replace RTD if faulty: If the probe or cable is damaged or tests open, replace it with a compatible Cuisinart RTD temperature probe kit. Route the new cable away from hot surfaces and moving parts, then reconnect to the control board.
- Step 6 – Power up and test: Reinstall the controller, plug the grill back in, and power on. Confirm that Er1 is cleared and that the temperature reading appears on the display.
