Possible Causes
Pellet jam in auger tube, Swollen pellets from moisture, Failed auger motor, Sheared auger motor shear pin or set screw
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure it is completely cool. Wear gloves when handling metal parts.
- Step 1 – Empty hopper: Remove all pellets from the hopper. Use a shop vac to clear remaining pellets and dust from the auger intake area.
- Step 2 – Check auger movement: With the grill still unplugged, remove the access panel on the side or back to expose the auger motor. Try to rotate the auger shaft by hand (from the fire pot side if accessible). If it will not turn, there is likely a jam.
- Step 3 – Clear auger jam: Remove the screws securing the auger motor to the auger shaft. Slide the motor back and pull the auger out of the tube from the fire pot side. Use a wooden dowel or similar tool to push out compacted pellets. Clean the tube thoroughly.
- Step 4 – Inspect auger motor and coupling: Check the motor shaft, shear pin, or set screw that couples the motor to the auger. Replace any broken shear pin or tighten a loose set screw. If the motor shows signs of overheating or will not run when powered (test only if you are qualified), replace it.
- Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger into the tube, reconnect the motor, and secure all fasteners. Refill the hopper with fresh, dry pellets. Plug in the grill and start a priming cycle to confirm the auger feeds pellets normally and that Er6 is cleared.
