Possible Causes
Lid thermometer not calibrated, RTD probe location difference, RTD drift or failure, Hot spots near fire pot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use heat‑resistant gloves when placing or removing thermometers in a hot grill.
- Step 1 – Use a reference thermometer: Place a reliable oven thermometer or probe at grate level near the center of the cook chamber.
- Step 2 – Compare readings: After 20–30 minutes at a stable setpoint, compare the digital display, lid thermometer, and reference thermometer.
- Step 3 – Interpret differences: Some variation (10–20°F) is normal due to location. Large differences (40°F+) suggest a faulty lid gauge or RTD.
- Step 4 – Replace faulty sensor: If the reference thermometer matches the digital display but not the lid gauge, replace the lid thermometer. If the reference matches the lid but not the display, replace the RTD probe.
