Er09 appears and the grill shuts down when high temperatures are reached.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Immediate safety: If you suspect a grease fire, keep the lid closed, turn the grill OFF, and unplug it. Do NOT open the lid until flames subside. Never use water on a grease fire.
- After cooling: Once the grill is completely cool, remove grates and drip trays. Inspect for heavy grease buildup and signs of flare-ups.
- Clean thoroughly: Scrape and clean the drip tray, grease channels, and interior surfaces. Empty and clean the grease bucket. Ensure grease can flow freely to the bucket.
- Check exhaust and intake: Verify that the chimney cap is not fully closed and that exhaust and air intake openings are clear of soot and debris.
- Inspect high-limit switch: Locate the high-limit temperature switch (usually mounted near the fire pot or on the cook chamber wall). Check for loose wires or signs of overheating. Some switches are manual-reset; press the reset button if present.
- Test switch continuity: With power disconnected, use a multimeter to check continuity across the high-limit switch at room temperature. An open reading on a non-resettable switch indicates it has tripped permanently and must be replaced.
- Replace faulty high-limit: Install a new Enders high-limit temperature switch of the same rating, securing it firmly to the mounting surface for proper sensing.
After cleaning and replacing any failed safety components, perform a low-temperature test cook to confirm stable operation without Er09.
