Possible Causes
Faulty lid position switch, Misaligned lid magnet or actuator, Broken lid switch wiring, Control board not detecting closed lid
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill before inspecting switches.
- Locate lid switch: On some Enders pellet grills, a magnetic reed switch or mechanical microswitch is mounted near the lid hinge or front edge. Identify the switch and its wiring.
- Check alignment: Ensure the magnet or actuator attached to the lid lines up directly with the switch when the lid is closed. Adjust mounting screws if necessary.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the switch wires to the control board. Look for breaks, loose connectors, or damage from heat.
- Test switch function: With the grill unplugged, disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to check continuity while opening and closing the lid. The reading should change between open and closed states.
- Bypass for testing only: If safe and legal in your area, you may temporarily jumper the switch connector to simulate a closed lid for diagnostic purposes. Do not operate the grill long-term with safety devices bypassed.
- Replace faulty switch: Install a new Enders lid safety switch or reed sensor, ensuring proper alignment and secure wiring.
After repair, confirm that the grill only starts when the lid is in the correct position, and that Er11 no longer appears.
