Possible Causes
Blocked chimney cap, Heavy creosote buildup in exhaust, Combustion fan not reaching speed, Wind blowing directly into exhaust
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF, unplug the grill, and allow it to cool completely before cleaning the exhaust system.
- Inspect chimney: Remove the chimney cap and check for soot, creosote, or insect nests. Clean the chimney with a brush.
- Check exhaust outlet: Ensure the exhaust port from the cook chamber to the chimney is clear of grease and ash. Scrape and vacuum as needed.
- Verify fan performance: Access the combustion fan and clean the blades and housing. Confirm the fan spins freely and runs strongly during operation.
- Relocate if necessary: Avoid positioning the grill so that strong prevailing winds blow directly into the exhaust, which can disrupt draft.
If Er17 persists after thorough cleaning and fan inspection, the combustion fan or pressure/draft sensor (if equipped) may be faulty.
