Possible Causes

Restricted combustion air, Overfeeding pellets, Damp pellets producing heavy smoke, Dirty firepot with ash blocking air holes

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill before cleaning.

  • Clean firepot thoroughly: Remove all ash and debris from the firepot and ensure all air holes are open.
  • Check fan and intake: Clean the combustion fan and intake vents. Make sure nothing is blocking airflow under or behind the grill.
  • Use quality pellets: Discard any pellets that feel soft or crumbly. Use only dry, food-grade hardwood pellets.
  • Monitor pellet feed: If the firepot is overflowing with unburned pellets, the auger may be feeding too much. Inspect the control board and auger relay for sticking as described in other entries.
