Possible Causes
RTD probe wires shorted together, RTD cable insulation melted against firebox, Moisture inside RTD connector, Failed RTD temperature probe
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and let the grill cool completely before inspection.
- Inspect RTD wiring: Locate the RTD probe inside the cook chamber on the left or right wall (depending on model). Follow the cable through the wall grommet to the controller. Look for melted insulation or bare wires touching metal.
- Check for moisture: Unplug the RTD from the control board. If the connector is wet or greasy, dry it thoroughly and clean with electrical contact cleaner.
- Test resistance: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the RTD leads. A very low resistance (near 0 ohms) indicates a shorted probe. Compare to expected RTD resistance (typically 100–2000 ohms depending on temperature; at room temp it should not be near zero).
- Re‑route cable: If the cable is touching the firebox or heat shield, re‑route it through the factory clips so it does not contact hot metal.
- Replace RTD: If the probe is shorted or physically damaged, install a new Green Mountain Grills RTD temperature probe and reconnect to the control board.
