Possible Causes
Auger motor stalled or seized, Jammed auger tube with swollen pellets, Loose auger motor connector at control board, Failed auger motor winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool. Wear gloves and eye protection when working around the auger and pellets.
- Check pellet level and quality: Empty the hopper and inspect for wet, swollen, or clumped pellets that can jam the auger. Replace with fresh, dry Green Mountain Grills–compatible hardwood pellets.
- Inspect auger motor connection: Remove the side panel to access the auger motor and control board. Ensure the auger motor plug is fully seated on the board and that the motor wires are intact.
- Test auger rotation: With the grill unplugged, try to rotate the auger shaft by hand (from the firepot side after removing the firepot if necessary). If it will not turn, there is likely a pellet jam.
- Clear auger jam: Remove the auger motor mounting bolts, slide the motor off the auger shaft, and pull the auger out of the tube. Use a wooden dowel or screwdriver to break up and remove compacted pellets. Vacuum out dust and debris, then reinstall the auger and motor.
- Test motor: With the auger removed, briefly power the grill and observe if the auger motor spins. If it does not, the motor is likely failed and should be replaced with an OEM Green Mountain Grills auger motor.
