Possible Causes

RTD probe coated in grease, RTD probe placement affected by heat shield, Control board PID tuning issue, Auger relay sticking on

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill off and let it cool before touching the RTD or internal components.

  • Clean RTD probe: Gently wipe the RTD with a non-abrasive pad to remove grease and soot. Do not bend the probe.
  • Check heat shield position: Ensure the heat shield is installed in the correct orientation and not blocking airflow around the RTD.
  • Compare with external thermometer: Place a reliable grill thermometer at grate level to compare readings. If the GMG display is inaccurate, replace the RTD.
  • Observe auger behavior: Watch whether the auger runs continuously even when at or above setpoint. If so, the control board or auger relay may be faulty and require replacement.
