Possible Causes
RTD probe intermittent connection, Excessive wind affecting combustion, Control board PID tuning drift, Pellets feeding inconsistently due to bridging
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing the controller or RTD wiring.
- Secure RTD connection: Reseat the RTD connector on the control board and ensure the cable is not moving when the lid opens/closes.
- Stabilize environment: Shield the grill from strong wind and avoid frequent lid opening.
- Stir pellets: Occasionally stir pellets in the hopper during long cooks to prevent bridging and inconsistent feed.
- Replace RTD if intermittent: If tapping or moving the RTD cable causes the temperature reading to jump, replace the RTD probe.
- Update firmware: Check with GMG for any controller firmware updates that improve temperature control.
