Possible Causes
Exposure to moisture and humidity, Lack of seasoning on grates, Water left in drip tray or bottom, Damaged high-temp paint or coating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the grill is cool before cleaning or applying coatings.
- Remove surface rust: Use a grill brush or fine steel wool to remove light rust from grates and interior surfaces.
- Season grates: Apply a thin coat of high-smoke-point cooking oil to grates and heat to season and protect.
- Touch up paint: For exterior rust, sand lightly and apply high-temperature grill paint approved by GMG.
- Improve storage: Use a GMG grill cover and avoid leaving water in the drip tray or bottom of the grill.
- Replace severely rusted parts: Replace heavily corroded grates, firepot, or heat shields with OEM GMG parts.
