Possible Causes
Empty pellet hopper, Pellet bridge or tunnel preventing feed, Wet or swollen pellets, Auger not primed after cleaning
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill OFF and allow it to cool before working around the firepot or hopper.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Refill hopper: Open the hopper and verify pellet level. Refill with dry, high-quality hardwood pellets.
- 2. Break pellet bridges: Use a clean, dry tool to stir pellets in the hopper and break up any bridges or tunnels that prevent pellets from dropping into the auger intake.
- 3. Inspect pellet condition: Remove any pellets that are swollen, crumbly, or discolored. Moist pellets can jam the auger and burn poorly.
- 4. Prime the auger: If the hopper or auger was recently emptied, run a priming cycle per the Grilla Grills manual (often by running the auger with the firepot empty) until pellets begin to drop into the firepot.
- 5. Clean the firepot: Vacuum out ash and unburned pellets before restarting to prevent overflow or ignition issues.
When to call a technician: If the hopper is full and pellets are dry but the NOPEL warning persists, the hopper sensor (if equipped) or control board may be faulty and require service.
