Possible Causes
P-setting manually set too high, Warm ambient temperature, Restricted exhaust or poor airflow, Excessive pellet feed at low temp
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: P5 is a high feed rate setting. It is not a failure by itself but can cause temperature overshoot and heavy smoke if misused.
Step-by-step adjustments:
- 1. Check P-setting: Access the controller menu and confirm the current P-setting. If it is at P5 or higher, consider reducing it to P3 or P2 for more stable low-and-slow cooking.
- 2. Improve airflow: Ensure the chimney cap is adjusted per the manual and not fully closed. Check that the combustion fan intake is not blocked by debris.
- 3. Clean the firepot: Remove ash buildup that can cause smoldering and inconsistent combustion.
- 4. Monitor temperature: After adjusting P-setting, allow the grill to stabilize for 20–30 minutes and observe whether overshoot is reduced.
When to call a technician: Persistent overshoot despite proper P-setting and clean internals may indicate a control board calibration issue that requires service.
