Possible Causes

Damaged RTD temperature sensor wire, Disconnected RTD plug at control board, Failed RTD temperature probe, Corroded RTD connector at grill body

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill from mains power and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the grill for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try to power on. If Er1 returns, continue.
  • Step 2 – Inspect RTD probe: Locate the RTD temperature probe inside the cook chamber (usually a small metal rod on the side wall). Check that the probe is not bent, broken, or heavily coated in grease. Gently clean with a non‑abrasive pad.
  • Step 3 – Check RTD wiring: Trace the RTD cable from the probe through the back of the grill to the control panel. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or rodent damage. Repair any minor insulation damage with high‑temp electrical tape; replace the probe if wires are broken.
  • Step 4 – Verify connectors: Remove the control panel access cover. Find the RTD connector on the control board (usually a 2‑wire plug). Unplug and re‑seat the connector several times to clear oxidation. Ensure it is fully latched.
  • Step 5 – Resistance test (optional): With the grill unplugged, disconnect the RTD from the board and measure resistance across the two RTD leads with a multimeter. A typical RTD will read roughly 100–2000 Ω depending on temperature. An infinite (OL) reading indicates an open circuit and the probe must be replaced.
  • Step 6 – Replace RTD: If wiring and connectors are intact but Er1 persists, install a new OEM Landmann RTD temperature probe, routing the cable away from hot surfaces and moving parts.
  • When to call a technician: If a known‑good RTD still shows Er1, the fault may be on the control board and professional diagnosis is recommended.
