Control display shows Er2 and grill shuts down or will not start.

Safety first: Disconnect power and ensure the grill is completely cool before inspection.

• Step 1 – Visual cable check: Follow the RTD cable from the probe inside the cook chamber to the control panel. Look for melted spots where the cable may have touched the firebox or exhaust. If copper conductors are exposed or touching, the probe must be replaced.
• Step 2 – Inspect connector for moisture: Open the control panel and unplug the RTD connector from the control board. Check for water, grease, or corrosion. Dry gently with a clean cloth and use electrical contact cleaner if available. Allow to dry fully before reconnecting.
• Step 3 – Multimeter test: With the RTD disconnected, measure resistance between each RTD lead and the metal body of the probe. There should be no continuity (OL). If you read near 0 Ω between the two leads, the probe is shorted and must be replaced.
• Step 4 – Replace RTD: Install a new OEM RTD temperature probe, securing the cable with high‑temp clips or ties so it cannot touch the firepot, auger tube, or exhaust stack.
• Step 5 – Board inspection: If a new RTD does not clear Er2, inspect the control board for burn marks or damaged traces around the RTD input. At this point, replacement of the control board or professional service is advised.
