Possible Causes

Burned‑out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter connection at control board, Failed igniter relay on control board, Excess ash blocking pellet ignition in firepot

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure the firepot and cook chamber are completely cool. Wear heat‑resistant gloves and safety glasses when working near the firepot.

  • Step 1 – Clean firepot: Remove cooking grates and heat baffle. Vacuum out all ash and pellet debris from the firepot and surrounding area. A clogged firepot can prevent proper ignition.
  • Step 2 – Inspect igniter rod: Locate the igniter rod in the base of the firepot. Check for cracks, heavy corrosion, or missing tip. If the rod is physically damaged, it must be replaced.
  • Step 3 – Check wiring: Access the underside or side service panel to reach the igniter wiring. Verify the igniter plug is firmly connected to the control board and that wires are not pinched or burned.
  • Step 4 – Igniter test: With the igniter connected, plug in the grill and start an ignition cycle with the lid open. After 2–3 minutes, carefully feel near (not on) the firepot opening for heat from the igniter. If there is no heat, unplug the grill and proceed to replacement.
  • Step 5 – Replace igniter rod: Remove the retaining screw or bracket holding the igniter in place. Slide the old igniter out of the firepot tube. Install the new OEM Landmann hot rod igniter, ensuring the glowing tip sits correctly in the firepot and the cable is routed away from moving parts and hot surfaces.
  • Step 6 – Test: Reassemble the baffle and grates, then run a startup. If Er3 persists with a new igniter, the control board’s igniter circuit may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
