Possible Causes
Insufficient pellet feed, Igniter not reaching temperature, Combustion fan not providing enough air, Excess ash smothering fire in firepot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and confirm there are no active flames before cleaning. Wear gloves and a dust mask when handling ash.
- Step 1 – Clean firepot thoroughly: Remove grates and heat baffle. Vacuum all ash and unburned pellets from the firepot and surrounding area. A clean firepot is essential for stable flame.
- Step 2 – Check pellet quality: Inspect pellets in the hopper. Discard any that are damp, crumbly, or swollen. Refill with fresh, high‑quality hardwood pellets.
- Step 3 – Verify auger feed: With the firepot empty and the grill reassembled, start a prime or startup cycle with the lid open. Confirm that pellets are dropping into the firepot at regular intervals. If not, troubleshoot the auger system.
- Step 4 – Confirm igniter operation: During startup, feel for heat near the firepot after 2–3 minutes. If the igniter is cold, test and replace the hot rod igniter as needed.
- Step 5 – Check combustion fan: Ensure the fan starts and maintains airflow during startup. Weak or no airflow can cause flameouts; clean or replace the fan if necessary.
- Step 6 – Restart procedure: After addressing feed, ignition, and airflow, perform a full startup from cold. If Er8 recurs, the control board’s flame detection logic or temperature sensing may be faulty and require professional service.
