Possible Causes
RTD probe shorted to grill body, RTD cable insulation melted, Control board temperature input failure, Probe tip directly exposed to flame due to missing heat baffle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the grill to cool completely and unplug it before inspecting the probe or internal wiring.
- Step 1 – Verify baffles and shields: Ensure the heat baffle and drip tray are correctly installed so that the RTD probe is shielded from direct flame.
- Step 2 – Inspect RTD mounting: Confirm the probe is firmly mounted to the side wall and not bent into contact with the firebox or flame path.
- Step 3 – Check cable routing: Follow the RTD cable and look for melted insulation or spots where the cable touches the barrel or exhaust. Reroute and secure the cable away from hot surfaces.
- Step 4 – Electrical test: With the grill unplugged, disconnect the RTD from the control board and measure resistance. If the reading is near 0 Ω or fluctuates wildly when you gently move the cable, the probe is shorted and must be replaced.
- Step 5 – Replace RTD or board: Install a new RTD probe if the old one is faulty. If H1 persists with a new probe and correct installation, the control board temperature circuit may be defective and require replacement.
