Possible Causes

Insufficient pellet feed rate, Wet or poor‑quality pellets, Combustion fan not running at full speed, Air leaks from lid or door gasket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing internal components. Ensure there are no active embers in the firepot when cleaning.

  • Step 1 – Check pellet quality and level: Refill the hopper with fresh, dry hardwood pellets. Discard any damp or crumbly pellets.
  • Step 2 – Inspect for air leaks: Check the lid seal and body seams. Replace damaged gaskets and ensure the lid closes fully without gaps.
  • Step 3 – Clean firepot and burn area: Remove ash and clinkers from the firepot. Excess ash can reduce combustion efficiency and lower temperatures.
  • Step 4 – Verify auger feed: Run a prime cycle and confirm that pellets are feeding steadily. If feed is weak or intermittent, inspect the auger motor and tube for jams.
  • Step 5 – Check combustion fan speed: Start the grill and listen for the fan. If it sounds weak or slow, clean the fan blades and housing. Replace the fan if it fails to reach full speed.
  • Step 6 – Test again at moderate setpoint: Set the grill to a mid‑range temperature (e.g., 250°F) and monitor. If L1 persists despite good pellets, clean firepot, and proper airflow, the control board may not be driving the auger or fan correctly and may need replacement.
