Possible Causes
Swollen pellets from moisture, Foreign object in auger tube, Heavy pellet dust compaction, Rust inside auger tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before attempting to clear an auger jam. Do not force the auger with power applied.
- Step 1 – Empty hopper and intake: Remove all pellets and vacuum out the hopper and auger intake.
- Step 2 – Remove auger motor: Detach the motor from the auger shaft and remove the coupler.
- Step 3 – Extract auger: Pull the auger shaft out of the tube. This may require twisting and pulling to break up compacted pellets. Use a wooden dowel from the opposite end if necessary.
- Step 4 – Clean tube thoroughly: Scrape and vacuum all pellet residue and dust from the auger tube. Address any rust with light sanding.
- Step 5 – Reassemble and use dry pellets: Reinstall the auger and motor, ensuring free rotation. Refill with only dry pellets stored indoors to prevent future jams.
