Possible Causes
Pellet dust and debris in auger tube, Worn auger motor bearings, Bent auger shaft, Misaligned auger coupler
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before working on the auger or motor. Keep hands clear of sharp auger edges.
- Step 1 – Empty hopper: Remove all pellets and vacuum out dust to expose the auger intake.
- Step 2 – Remove auger motor: Access the motor under or behind the hopper. Remove mounting bolts and disconnect the coupler from the auger shaft.
- Step 3 – Inspect auger shaft: Slide the auger out of the tube. Clean off pellet dust and inspect for bends or scoring. Straighten or replace if bent.
- Step 4 – Clean auger tube: Remove compacted dust and debris from the tube. Lightly sand any rust spots and apply a very thin coat of food-safe dry lubricant if recommended by the manufacturer.
- Step 5 – Evaluate motor: Spin the motor shaft by hand. If it feels rough or noisy, replace the auger motor. Reassemble and test for quiet operation.
