Temperature Probe Open / RTD Sensor Failure
Controller displays ErF and grill will not start or temperature reading is missing

Possible Causes
Disconnected RTD temperature probe, Broken RTD probe wiring, Failed RTD sensor, Corroded connector at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before handling wiring or the controller.
- Step 1 – Locate RTD probe: Inside the cook chamber, find the metal temperature probe mounted to the side wall. Follow its cable back through the body to the controller.
- Step 2 – Check connections: Remove the controller from the hopper housing. Locate the RTD connector on the control board and ensure it is fully seated. Disconnect and reconnect to clean the contacts.
- Step 3 – Inspect cable: Examine the RTD cable along its entire length for cuts, melted insulation, or pinch points where the cable passes through metal. If damaged, replace the RTD probe assembly.
- Step 4 – Test with multimeter (optional): With the RTD disconnected and grill unplugged, measure resistance across the RTD leads. A typical RTD will show a finite resistance (often 100–2000 ohms depending on type). An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed probe.
- Step 5 – Replace RTD probe: If the probe or wiring is damaged or tests open, install a new Louisiana Grills-compatible RTD temperature probe and reconnect to the control board. Clear the ErF code by cycling power.
