Possible Causes
Failed combustion fan motor, Obstruction in fan blades, Loose fan wiring connector, Faulty fan driver on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing the fan or internal wiring.
- Step 1 – Listen for fan: During startup, you should hear the combustion fan running. If there is no sound or airflow from the firebox, suspect a fan issue.
- Step 2 – Access fan assembly: Remove the side or rear panel (depending on model) to expose the combustion fan mounted near the burn pot. Inspect for grease, debris, or wires obstructing the fan blades.
- Step 3 – Check wiring: Verify the fan's wiring harness is firmly connected to the control board and that no wires are pinched or melted near the firebox.
- Step 4 – Spin test: With power off, gently spin the fan blades by hand. They should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, replace the fan assembly.
- Step 5 – Electrical test: If you have a multimeter and experience, check for voltage at the fan connector during startup (use caution with live voltage). If the board supplies power but the fan does not run, replace the fan. If no power is present and wiring is intact, the control board may be faulty.
