Possible Causes

Failed hot rod igniter, Empty pellet hopper or poor-quality pellets, Blocked burn pot with ash, Faulty combustion fan not providing airflow

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before removing internal components. Ensure the grill is cool to the touch.

  • Step 1 – Check pellets: Open the hopper and verify it is at least half full with dry, food-grade hardwood pellets approved for Louisiana Grills. Replace any damp or crumbly pellets and vacuum out pellet dust.
  • Step 2 – Clean burn pot: Remove cooking grates and heat baffle. Lift out the burn pot if removable, or vacuum ash directly from the pot. Ensure all air holes in the burn pot are clear.
  • Step 3 – Test igniter operation: With the burn pot exposed, plug in the grill and start it with the lid open. Within 3–5 minutes you should feel heat at the bottom of the burn pot and see the igniter tip glowing red. If there is no heat or glow, unplug the grill and inspect the hot rod igniter wiring and connector at the control board. Replace the igniter if it does not heat.
  • Step 4 – Verify combustion fan: During startup you should hear the combustion fan running and feel air movement in the firebox. If the fan is silent or weak, inspect the fan blades for obstructions and check the wiring to the fan motor. Replace the combustion fan assembly if it does not run on startup.
  • Step 5 – Reset and retry: After cleaning and any part replacement, clear the ErL code by turning the controller OFF then ON and attempt another startup.
