Possible Causes
Failed main control board, Shorted RTD temperature probe, Shorted igniter or fan circuit, Moisture intrusion into control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before opening the control panel or handling wiring.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the grill for at least 5 minutes to allow the controller to fully discharge. Plug back in and attempt to power on. If Err reappears immediately, continue.
- Step 2 – Inspect control panel: Check the face of the controller for signs of moisture, condensation, or physical damage. If the grill was exposed to heavy rain, allow the controller area to dry completely for 24 hours before retesting.
- Step 3 – Disconnect peripherals: With power unplugged, open the controller housing. Disconnect non-essential components one at a time (RTD probe, igniter, fan, auger motor) from the control board. Plug the grill back in and see if the Err clears with certain components unplugged. A shorted component will often cause the error.
- Step 4 – Check wiring harness: Inspect the main wiring harness for pinched, melted, or frayed wires, especially near the firebox and under the hopper. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Step 5 – Replace controller if needed: If the error persists with all peripheral components disconnected and wiring intact, the main control board is likely defective and should be replaced with a compatible Louisiana Grills controller.
