Possible Causes
Failed internal ambient sensor (on some digital controllers), Loose sensor wiring, Moisture damage to sensor circuit, Control board failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before opening the controller housing.
- Step 1 – Identify sensor type: Some Louisiana Grills models use an internal sensor on the control board in addition to the RTD. Consult your manual to locate it.
- Step 2 – Inspect wiring: Check any small sensor wires or harnesses leading to the board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion.
- Step 3 – Dry moisture: If the controller has been exposed to rain or condensation, allow it to dry thoroughly. Use a dry cloth and, if needed, gentle airflow (no direct heat) to remove moisture.
- Step 4 – Compare with external thermometer: Use a separate grill thermometer to compare actual chamber temperature with the controller reading. Large discrepancies with a good RTD may indicate an internal sensor or board fault.
- Step 5 – Replace controller: If the SENSOR error persists and wiring is intact, the control board may need replacement.
