Possible Causes
Incorrect controller calibration, RTD probe coated with grease, Auger motor sticking on, Control board relay stuck closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Monitor the grill closely when it is running hotter than expected to avoid grease fires.
- Step 1 – Clean RTD probe: Wipe the temperature probe inside the cook chamber with a damp cloth to remove grease buildup that can insulate it and cause slow response.
- Step 2 – Verify setpoint: Confirm the controller is set to the desired temperature and not in a high-heat mode.
- Step 3 – Observe auger behavior: Watch the auger during operation. It should cycle on and off. If it runs continuously, the auger relay on the control board may be stuck, requiring board replacement.
- Step 4 – Check for air leaks: Inspect the lid gasket and body seams. Excess air leaks can increase combustion and raise temperature. Replace worn gaskets.
- Step 5 – Controller calibration: Some models allow temperature calibration. Compare with a reliable grill thermometer and adjust per the manual if available.
