Possible Causes
Failed hot rod igniter, Excessive ash blocking igniter, Weak combustion fan airflow, Very low ambient temperature affecting ignition
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure it is cool before working near the burn pot.
- Step 1 – Clean burn pot: Remove grates and heat baffle. Vacuum all ash and ensure the igniter opening is clear.
- Step 2 – Test igniter glow: With the burn pot exposed, plug in and start the grill. Within 3–5 minutes, the igniter should glow red. If not, shut down, unplug, and inspect the igniter wiring.
- Step 3 – Replace igniter if needed: Remove the old igniter from its mounting tube and install a new Louisiana Grills-compatible hot rod igniter.
- Step 4 – Verify fan operation: Ensure the combustion fan runs during startup. Without airflow, pellets may smolder but not ignite.
- Step 5 – Manual light (temporary): As a diagnostic step only, you can place a small amount of starter gel or a food-safe fire starter in the burn pot and light it with a long match, then start the grill. If the grill runs normally after manual lighting, the igniter is the likely failure point.
