Masterbuilt Excessive Airflow / Ash Carryover

Ash blowing onto food or out of exhaust during cooks

Advertisements

Possible Causes

Combustion fan running too fast, Fire pot overfilled with pellets, Ash not cleaned between cooks, Exhaust cap set too low restricting flow

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Avoid inhaling ash; wear a dust mask when cleaning.

  • 1. Clean fire pot and barrel:
    • Vacuum ash thoroughly before each cook.
  • 2. Avoid manual overfeeding:
    • Do not add extra pellets directly into the fire pot.
  • 3. Adjust exhaust cap:
    • Ensure the chimney cap is set per Masterbuilt guidelines, not overly restricting flow.
  • 4. Check fan control:
    • If the fan seems excessively strong and uncontrollable, the control board may be faulty and require replacement.
