Possible Causes
Pellet hopper empty or bridging, Wet or swollen pellets, Auger motor not feeding pellets, Combustion fan not running or weak, Fire pot full of ash restricting airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool before cleaning the fire pot or working near the auger.
- 1. Check fuel supply:
- Open the hopper and verify it is at least 1/3 full of dry, hardwood pellets.
- Break up any pellet bridges (arched pellets stuck above the auger) with a clean, dry tool.
- Remove any clumped or swollen pellets and discard.
- 2. Clean the fire pot:
- Remove grates, drip pan, and heat diffuser.
- Vacuum out the fire pot and surrounding area with a cool-ash vacuum only.
- Ensure the air holes in the fire pot are not blocked.
- 3. Verify auger operation:
- With the grill cool and empty of pellets, plug in and start on SMOKE or LOW.
- Look into the fire pot to see if pellets begin to drop after a minute or two.
- If no pellets feed, listen for auger motor noise. A loud hum with no movement suggests a jam.
- 4. Check combustion fan:
- During startup, confirm the combustion fan in the hopper area is spinning.
- Clean dust and debris from the fan blades and intake vents.
- 5. Clear auger jam (if needed):
- Unplug the grill and remove all pellets from the hopper.
- Access the auger by removing the hopper cover and auger motor mounting plate.
- Pull the auger shaft out and scrape off compacted pellets.
- Reassemble and test.
