Control panel displays ERR5 and grill will not power on fully or buttons are unresponsive

Safety first: Unplug the grill before removing the control panel or accessing internal wiring.

• 1. Verify power source:
  • Confirm the outlet has 120V AC using another appliance.
  • Check any GFCI outlet or breaker and reset if tripped.
• 2. Inspect power cord and strain relief:
  • Check the Masterbuilt power cord for cuts, burns, or crushed sections.
  • Ensure the cord is fully seated in the grill's power inlet (if detachable).
• 3. Access control panel:
  • Remove screws securing the control panel to the hopper.
  • Carefully pull the panel out to expose the back of the board.
  • Check that all harness plugs (power in, fan, auger, igniter, RTD) are firmly connected.
• 4. Look for board damage:
  • Inspect for burnt components, cracked solder joints, or a blown onboard fuse (if visible and user-replaceable).
  • If the fuse is socketed and visibly blown, replace with the same rating only.
• 5. Test keypad:
  • Press each button and observe if any respond intermittently.
  • If the display lights but buttons do not respond, the keypad membrane or board logic is likely faulty.
• 6. Replace control board:
  • If wiring and power are good but ERR5 persists, replace the main control board assembly with a Masterbuilt-compatible part.
