Possible Causes
Hot rod igniter not heating, No pellet feed to fire pot, Combustion fan not running, Excessive ash or obstruction in fire pot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure it is cool before cleaning or accessing internal components.
- 1. Clean fire pot:
- Remove grates, drip tray, and heat diffuser.
- Vacuum out all ash and debris from the fire pot and surrounding area.
- Ensure air holes in the fire pot are open.
- 2. Verify pellet feed:
- Check hopper for dry pellets.
- Start the grill and watch for pellets dropping into the fire pot within 1–2 minutes.
- If no pellets appear, troubleshoot the auger motor and auger shaft for jams.
- 3. Check igniter operation:
- During startup, look into the fire pot (from a safe distance) to see if the igniter glows red after 2–4 minutes.
- If it never glows, test the igniter resistance and wiring as described for ERR1.
- 4. Confirm combustion fan:
- Listen for the fan running during startup.
- If silent, inspect the fan wiring and test the fan by applying 120V AC directly (only if you are qualified to do so).
- 5. Replace failed components:
- Replace the hot rod igniter if it does not heat.
- Replace or free the auger motor/auger shaft if pellets do not feed.
- Replace the combustion fan if it does not spin.
