Possible Causes

Burned-out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter connection at control board, Damaged igniter sheath from overheating, Control board not sending power to igniter

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure the fire pot is cool before touching the igniter.

  • 1. Visual inspection:
    • Remove grates and heat diffuser to expose the fire pot.
    • Inspect the igniter tip for cracks, missing sections, or heavy scaling.
  • 2. Wiring check:
    • Access the igniter wiring under the hopper.
    • Confirm the igniter plug is fully seated on the control board.
  • 3. Resistance test (if possible):
    • Disconnect the igniter and measure resistance across its leads.
    • Replace if open or shorted.
  • 4. Replace igniter:
    • Remove the screw or bracket holding the igniter in the fire pot tube.
    • Pull the igniter out from the hopper side, routing the new igniter wire the same way.
    • Secure the new hot rod igniter and reconnect to the control board.
