How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure it is completely cool before working on the auger or hopper.

  • 1. Confirm symptom:
    • Start the grill and listen for auger motor noise.
    • If silent or humming without movement, proceed to inspection.
  • 2. Empty hopper:
    • Remove all pellets from the hopper.
    • Vacuum out dust and fines.
  • 3. Access auger assembly:
    • Remove the hopper cover and rear/side panels as per Masterbuilt manual.
    • Locate the auger motor at the end of the auger tube.
  • 4. Check coupler and pin:
    • Inspect the connection between the motor shaft and auger shaft.
    • Replace any broken shear pin or stripped coupler.
  • 5. Clear auger jam:
    • Remove the screws securing the auger motor and pull the auger shaft out of the tube.
    • Scrape off compacted pellets and clean the tube.
    • Reinstall the auger and motor.
  • 6. Test motor:
    • With the grill reassembled, plug in and start on LOW.
    • If the auger still does not turn, replace the auger motor.
