Temperature Measurement Discrepancy
Lid thermometer (if equipped) disagrees significantly with digital display
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Analog lid gauge out of calibration, RTD probe location difference, Heat stratification inside cook chamber, Faulty RTD sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use heat-resistant gloves when handling thermometers on a hot grill.
- 1. Use a reference thermometer:
- Place a reliable digital probe at grate level.
- Compare readings from the grate probe, lid gauge, and digital display.
- 2. Understand location differences:
- Recognize that lid gauges read higher or lower depending on placement.
- 3. Replace faulty sensor:
- If the digital display is clearly inaccurate compared to grate-level reference, replace the RTD temperature probe.
- If only the lid gauge is off, replace the lid thermometer if desired.
