Possible Causes
Worn auger motor gearbox, Dry or rusted auger shaft, Misaligned auger in tube, Foreign material in auger flighting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the grill before working on the auger assembly.
- Empty hopper: Remove pellets to reduce load on the auger.
- Access auger: Remove the auger motor and slide the auger out of the tube. Inspect for rust, burrs, or foreign objects.
- Clean and lubricate: Clean the auger shaft and tube. Lightly lubricate the auger shaft bearing surfaces with a high-temp, food-safe lubricant (avoid getting lubricant where it can contact pellets directly).
- Inspect gearbox: Rotate the motor shaft by hand. If it feels rough or has excessive play, replace the auger motor/gearbox assembly.
- Reassemble: Reinstall the auger and motor, ensuring proper alignment, and test for quiet operation.
