Possible Causes

Undersized extension cord causing voltage drop, Loose power cord connection at grill, Failing internal power supply on control board, Household circuit overloaded

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn the grill off and unplug it before inspecting electrical components.

  • Check power source: Plug the grill directly into a known-good grounded outlet. Avoid long or thin extension cords; if one is necessary, use a heavy-gauge outdoor cord (12–14 AWG).
  • Inspect power cord: Examine the Memphis grill power cord for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. Ensure the strain relief at the grill body is intact and the plug blades are not loose or corroded.
  • Verify circuit capacity: Ensure the grill is not sharing a circuit with high-draw appliances (air conditioners, heaters). Move the grill to a dedicated 15A or 20A circuit if possible.
  • Internal connections: Remove the controller access panel. Check that the power cord leads are firmly attached to the controller or internal power supply block. Tighten any loose spade or screw terminals with power disconnected.
  • Check for overheating: Look for discoloration or burnt smell around the controller and power supply components. If the board shows signs of overheating or damage, replacement of the control board assembly is recommended.
  • Test operation: After securing connections, plug the grill back in and monitor for ER-6 during startup and cooking. If the error persists on a good circuit, the internal power supply on the controller is likely failing and the controller should be replaced.
