Possible Causes

Failed combustion (induction) fan motor, Obstructed fan intake or exhaust, Loose fan wiring at control board, Heavy ash buildup restricting airflow around firepot

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the grill to cool completely. Ensure there are no hot embers in the firepot.

  • Step 1 – Clean firepot and burn area: Remove grates and drip tray. Vacuum the firepot and surrounding cavity thoroughly. Excess ash can choke airflow and trigger airflow‑related errors.
  • Step 2 – Inspect combustion fan: Access the combustion fan from the underside or rear of the Monument pellet grill. Check that the fan blades spin freely by hand and are not obstructed by wires, insulation, or debris.
  • Step 3 – Check wiring: Locate the fan wires and connector at the main control board. Ensure the plug is fully seated and that no wires are cut, burned, or pinched.
  • Step 4 – Test fan operation: With the grill reassembled and plugged in, start an ignition cycle with the lid open. You should hear the combustion fan start immediately and feel air movement at the exhaust. If the fan does not run, stop the cycle and unplug the grill.
  • Step 5 – Electrical test (advanced): With the grill unplugged, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed fan. If you have a safe test cord and experience, you can briefly power the fan directly to confirm operation (only if you are qualified to do so).
  • Step 6 – Replace combustion fan: Remove the mounting screws holding the fan housing to the grill body. Transfer any gaskets or spacers to the new fan. Install the new Monument combustion fan, reconnect wiring, and ensure no wires contact the fan blades.
  • Step 7 – Test: Plug in the grill, start a cook cycle, and verify that the fan runs continuously during startup and that Er5 does not reappear.
