Possible Causes

RTD probe out of calibration, RTD partially damaged by flame, Loose RTD connection causing intermittent readings, Faulty temperature input circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool before touching the RTD probe or control panel.

  • Step 1 – Visual inspection of RTD: Inside the cook chamber, locate the RTD probe. Check if it is bent, heavily carbonized, or has been directly exposed to flame. Clean gently with a non‑abrasive pad and degreaser.
  • Step 2 – Check wiring and connector: Access the back of the control panel and locate the RTD connector. Ensure it is fully seated. Unplug and re‑plug it several times to improve contact.
  • Step 3 – Compare with external thermometer: With the grill running at a stable setpoint (e.g., 250°F), place a reliable oven thermometer near the RTD. Compare readings. If the Monument display is off by more than 30–40°F, the RTD may be out of spec.
  • Step 4 – Replace RTD if needed: If cleaning and reseating do not correct the error or wild readings, replace the RTD temperature probe with an OEM Monument part. Route the new cable away from hot surfaces.
  • Step 5 – Controller replacement: If a new RTD still produces Er7 or wildly inaccurate readings, the main control board's sensor circuit is likely faulty and the board should be replaced.
