Safety first: Let the grill cool before adjusting internal components.

• Step 1 – Inspect heat diffuser: Remove grates and drip tray. Check the Monument heat diffuser/heat shield over the firepot for warping or misalignment. Reseat or replace if necessary.
• Step 2 – Clean diffuser: Scrape and clean grease and debris from the diffuser to restore even airflow.
• Step 3 – Balance loading: Avoid overcrowding one side of the grill with large cuts of meat.
• Step 4 – Use multiple thermometers: Place thermometers at different locations to understand hot and cool zones and adjust cooking positions accordingly.
