Grill overshoots set temperature by more than 50°F and cycles wildly

Safety first: Let the grill cool before touching the RTD or seals.

• Step 1 – Clean RTD probe: Gently clean the Monument RTD probe inside the cook chamber with a soft cloth and degreaser to remove buildup.
• Step 2 – Check probe placement: Ensure the probe is mounted in its factory location and not bent toward the firepot or exhaust.
• Step 3 – Inspect lid seal: Check the lid gasket and body for gaps or warping that allow excess air in. Replace worn gaskets if equipped.
• Step 4 – Avoid frequent lid opening: Opening the lid repeatedly causes large swings. Allow the grill to stabilize after changes.
• Step 5 – Controller replacement: If temperature swings remain extreme after cleaning and sealing, the main control board may be mis‑controlling the auger and fan and should be replaced.
