Possible Causes
Excessive firepot burn with lid open, Combustion fan not running, Auger tube packed with pellets, Grill shut down without proper cool‑down cycle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see smoke from the hopper, immediately turn off and unplug the grill. Keep the hopper lid closed and monitor. If flames appear, use a fire extinguisher rated for wood fires.
- Step 1 – Allow to cool: Let the grill and hopper cool completely before opening.
- Step 2 – Empty hopper and auger: Remove pellets from the hopper and vacuum out the auger intake area.
- Step 3 – Clean firepot: Remove all pellets and ash from the firepot and burn area.
- Step 4 – Check fan operation: Ensure the combustion fan runs properly during operation to prevent backdraft.
- Step 5 – Operating practice: Always allow the Monument grill to complete its shutdown/cool‑down cycle so the fire is fully extinguished before power is removed.
