Possible Causes
Exposure to moisture and humidity, Lack of seasoning or protective oil, Scratched porcelain or paint, Storing grill outdoors without cover
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the grill is cool before cleaning or applying oil.
- Step 1 – Remove loose rust: Use a grill brush or fine steel wool to remove surface rust from grates and interior surfaces.
- Step 2 – Clean and dry: Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
- Step 3 – Season grates: Apply a thin coat of high‑smoke‑point cooking oil to grates and heat the grill to 350–400°F for 30–45 minutes.
- Step 4 – Use cover: Store the Monument grill under a fitted cover when not in use and avoid leaving pellets in the hopper in damp climates.
- Step 5 – Replace severely corroded parts: If grates or drip trays are heavily pitted, replace them with OEM Monument components.
