Possible Causes
RTD probe wires shorted together, Moisture inside RTD probe or connector, Melted insulation on probe harness, Failed RTD temperature probe
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Let it cool fully.
Steps to diagnose:
- Visual inspection: Locate the RTD probe and its wiring. Look for melted insulation, bare wires touching each other, or the harness contacting the fire pot or exhaust area.
- Check connector: Open the control panel area and unplug the RTD connector from the main board. Inspect for moisture, grease, or corrosion bridging the pins. Clean gently with electrical contact cleaner and let dry completely.
- Resistance test: With the RTD disconnected, measure resistance across the two leads. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted probe. Replace the probe if shorted.
- Harness isolation: If the probe tests normal, inspect the harness along its entire length for crushed or pinched sections where the two conductors may be touching. Repair or replace as needed and secure with high-temp cable ties.
- Retest: Reconnect the probe, restore power, and check if Er2 clears.
Note: Persistent Er2 with a known-good probe and harness suggests a control board sensor input failure; professional diagnosis is recommended.
