Possible Causes
Failed combustion (exhaust) fan motor, Loose fan connector at control board, Obstruction preventing fan from spinning, Damaged fan wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool fully before accessing the fan area.
Steps:
- Access the fan: Remove the rear or side service panel to expose the combustion fan assembly.
- Inspect for obstructions: Check that the fan blades are not blocked by wires, insulation, or debris. Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding.
- Check wiring: Verify that the fan connector is firmly seated on the motor and at the control board. Look for burnt, brittle, or melted wires and repair as needed.
- Operational test: With the grill reassembled enough for safe operation, plug it in and start a cook cycle while observing the fan (keep fingers clear). If the fan does not start, but power is present at the motor, the motor is likely failed and should be replaced.
- Clean the fan: If the fan is heavily coated with grease or ash, remove it and clean the blades carefully to restore airflow.
Warning: Never bypass safety circuits to force the fan on. Inadequate airflow can cause dangerous flare-ups or smoke backdraft.
